16.06.2009 Presentation of the project of Reconstruction of a costume from “The Masquerade” performance

On June 15, 2009, presentation of a new project “Reconstruction of a costume from ‘The Masquerade’ performance” took place at the Actors Lobby of the theater. A graduate of the Academy of Theater Arts and costume artist/technologist Nadezhda SHEKHURDINA presented her diploma project: the costume of Monta from the second episode of Vs. Meyerhold’s legendary performance “The Masquerade” (1917), reconstructed after A.Y. Golovin’s sketch. A story of the performance and the phase-by-phase creation of a complex masquerade costume was accompanied with a slide show of Golovin’s sketches of decorations, curtains, paintings and costumes presented in chronological sequence of the performance along with photos of the group scenes of the second episode of the performance and some particular characters. People’s Artist of Russia Nikolay Marton was reading the accompanying text. Among the public invited, there were students, teachers, and even prospective students of the theater-directing department of the St. Petersburg State Academy of Theater Arts, students of the Academy of Arts, Institute of the Economics and Law, and University of Cinema and Television. Prior to the presentation, a tour of the Russian Drama Museum was carried out for the guests invited; it provided detailed comments on the “Maquerade” costumes displayed in the Golovin Hall of the museum. This action took place under the frames of the theater’s program of “Formation of youth audience and cultural theater media” and with financial support of the Alexandrinsky Charitable Foundation.
