On February 1, 2009, Distinguished Artist of Russia Mikhail Dolginin will celebrate his 60th birthday. A student of Igor Gorbachev, Mikhail Dolginin was admitted to the company in 1975, right after graduation from the college. His charm and lyricism, as well as simple and natural performing manner allowed Mikhail Dolginin to take quickly a leading place among the young actors of the theater. He was engaged not only in episodic, but also major roles right from the very first seasons. One of his first important roles was the role of Per Gyunt. The theater review Theater Leningrad wrote: “Mikhail Dolginin’s Per Gyunt is bright and clearly outstanding. He is exceptionally emotional and vibrant, clever and daring, seized by the dream of heroic exploits which will help him to govern the world. Though Dolginin is impersonating only the young Per Gyunt, he is very clear about the spiritual muteness and heartlessness which will bring his character to the future shipwreck” (1987, April 17-23). In the years of his work at the Alexandrinsky Theater, Mikhail Dolginin has played about 70 roles. Among the most prominent ones are: Seva (“Honor Your Father” by V. Lavrentiev, 1976), Renzo (“The Green Bird” be C. Gozzi, 1976), Rastinjak (“Father Goriot” by O. Balzac, 1982), Grinev (“The Captian’s Daughter” by A. Pushkin, 1984), Balzaminov (“Balzaminov’s Marriage” by A. Ostrovsky, 1984), Medvedenko (“The Seagull” by A. Chekhov, 1990), Levushka (“Fairy Tales of the Old Arbat” by A. Arbuzov, 1990), Blaise (“Blaise” by Claude Magnier, 1992), Ippolite (“Not Every Day is Sunday” by A. Ostrovsky, 1991), Oblomov (“Romances with Oblomov” after I. Goncharov, 1992).
Presently, Mikhail Dolginin is engaged in the roles of Vladimir Semenovich (“The Double” by Fedor Dostoyevsky), Post Master (“The Inspector General” by N. Gogol), and Dr. Strauss (“Flowers for Charley” after D. Keyes novel).
