On April 2, 2009 a theater symposium dedicated to the creative work of an outstanding Polish theater director Krystian Lupa took place in Wroclaw. At the Alexandrinsky Theater, Lupa directed “The Seagull” after A. Chekhov’s play. This year, the performance was nominated for the “Golden Mask.” The symposium was affiliated with Krystian Lupa being awarded with the prestigious European theater award “The New Theater Reality.” The official award ceremony will take place on April 5, 2009 in Wroclaw on the stage of the Jerzy Grzegorzewski Theater. Krystian Lupa’s performances “Factory 2,” “Presidentki,” episodes from the “Persona” performance, and fragments of the “Triptych Marilyn” the director is currently working at will be also shown. Such prominent figures of the European theater as Piter Brook, Heiner Mueller, Pina Bausch, Anatoly Vasiliev, Christophe Martaler, Alvis Hermansis, Bilyana Srblyanovich, Kristof Varlikovsky, and many others had also been honored with the European Award.
