Everything is unusual and astounding in this performance. The director composed together two incompatible, at the first look, creations in this original stage composition: Joseph Brodsky’s poem “A Fly” and the “Buzzer Fly” by Kornei Chukovsky. The director pulled out new perspectives from both Brodsky’s poetry and read to tatters Chukovsky’s tale in his grotesque stage composition of philosophical lyrics and children’s fairy tale known by heart by every child. There is no doubt that ironical references to Kafka’s Metamorphosis, the “brave vivisectionists” of Nickolay Oleinikov, and to the satire hymn of Lukianos’ Appraisal of a Fly will arise. Yeremin makes a theater experiment liberally mixing various genres, where pathos and parody interchange each other every once in a while. Approaches of a fair carousel are liberally combined with Guignol elements, while clownery and eccentrics are replaced by monologues of the main personage performed in the traditions of a classic tragedy. This strange and sinister masquerade involves the audience right from the very first scenes: each spectator has to walk along the stage podium in the very beginning of the performance. The action of the performance is taking place in the area where no spectator’s foot may tread: that is the acoustic tube of the 6th circle going around the theater hall and creating an inimitable Alexandrinsky acoustics. As it should be at a masquerade, each person will get a masque (not a theater but medical one) and carnival boot covers, thus turning into a rightful participant of this performance. In the first place, the performance will be of interest for the young people’s audience, ready for theater experiments of any kind.
